The Chargin’ Dog
Another Satisfied Customer!

The ultimate in customer service was order of the day in a Greensboro drugstore in the 1940’s.  In  addition to pharmaceutical products, the store also boasted a soda fountain.  Ice cream cones, sodas and milkshakes were extremely popular, particularly in the hot summer months.

One customer, however, enjoyed delicious ice cream every month of the year.  Ralph, “The Chargin’ Dog” was the most fortunate pet of a gentleman that held a charge account at the drugstore.  This generous man allowed his four-legged companion to charge whatever he wanted. Whenever Ralph got a taste for ice cream, he simply sauntered into the store and an employee would scoop up his favorite icy treat in a cone, kneel and offer it to him—hand held for his convenience.  Ralph would enthusiastically lick the ice cream until it disappeared and then finish off the cone, leaving the store with a friendly wag of his tail . . . another satisfied customer!
